A unique collection of original abstract paintings, acrylic on canvas, which delve into varied juxtapositions of color, intensity, shape, and gesture. These experimental works by a single artist strive to explore and expand expressionist ideas in the representation of the natural world.  The artist owes much to the schools of abstract expressionism, color field theory, and modern art in general, and finds virtually any space enhanced by a stimulating painting. As Mark Rothko noted, “A painting is not a picture of an experience; it is an experience.”

The groupings of paintings which follow roughly define sources of inspiration, selected styles, and rough time periods: the Windows Series was inspired by bands of sunlight streaming through windows, in various seasons and locations. It includes the experience of light as it penetrates the sea, at various depths. The Horizons Series was inspired by the bands of color which appear on the horizon at sunrise and sunset, in various weather conditions, locations, and seasons. The “Ancient Manuscript Series” represents an evolution of technique which expresses organization beneath abstraction, predictability underlying freer motifs. The “New Series” is a further evolution of this technique that exposes layers beneath the surface in an unpredictable way, sometimes unsettling. The “Natural World Series” are abstractions inspired by moments of observation which seemed paradigmatic. The “Breakout Series” is the ongoing effort by the artist to reduce reliance on predictable organization and gesture, offering a fresh landscape and novel expression. The "Tidal Series" is a collection of expressionistic reflections on the experience of being on the beach as it shifts and constantly renews with the tides.
